Once you start scrolling, headers disappear, and comparing information becomes difficult. Two features make this much easier: Freeze Panes<\/strong> and Split Panes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Freezing Rows and Columns<\/h2>\n

Freezing keeps certain rows or columns visible while the rest of the sheet scrolls. Most people use this to keep headers in place.<\/p>\n

Freeze the top row<\/h3>\n

  1. Select the View<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Freeze Panes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Choose Freeze Top Row<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Now the first row stays visible no matter how far you scroll down.<\/p>\n

    Freeze the first column<\/h3>\n

    1. Go to the View<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
    2. Click Freeze Panes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. Choose Freeze First Column<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Column A will remain visible when you scroll to the right.<\/p>\n

      Freeze multiple rows<\/h3>\n

      If you want to freeze more than one row, select the row that comes after<\/strong> the last row you want frozen.
      \nFor example, to freeze rows 1 and 2, click row 3, then:<\/p>\n

        Rows 1 and 2 will stay locked.<\/p>\n

        Freeze multiple columns<\/h3>\n

        To freeze more than one column, select the column that comes after<\/strong> the last column you want locked.
        \nExample: To freeze columns A and B, select column C, then:<\/p>\n

          Freeze both rows and columns at the same time<\/h3>\n

          Select the cell below<\/strong> the last row you want frozen and to the right<\/strong> of the last column you want frozen.
          \nExample: If you want to freeze the first row and the first column, click cell B2<\/strong>, then use Freeze Panes.<\/p>\n

          Unfreeze panes<\/h3>\n

          If you want to remove the freeze:<\/p>\n

            Splitting the Worksheet<\/h2>\n

            Split Panes divides the sheet into separate sections that can scroll independently. This is helpful when you want to compare two areas of the same worksheet without opening another window.<\/p>\n

            To split:<\/p>\n

            1. Select the cell where you want the split to occur.<\/li>\n
            2. Go to the View<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
            3. Click Split<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Excel will divide the sheet based on the selected cell. You can drag the split bars to resize each section.
              \nTo remove the split, click Split<\/strong> again.<\/p>\n

              Opening the Same Workbook in Multiple Windows<\/h2>\n

              If you want to compare different worksheets from the same file:<\/p>\n

              1. Go to the View<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
              2. Click New Window<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                A second window of the same workbook will open, and you can switch each one to a different sheet.
