The Big Event 2025: Virginia Tech’s Largest Day of Community Service
Roll up your sleeves and be part of Virginia Tech tradition at The Big Event 2025, the university’s massive student-led day of service on Saturday, April 5. Since 1983, Hokies have said “Thank you” to the towns that support them by tackling free home-improvement, beautification, and nonprofit projects across Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and the wider New River Valley. In one energetic morning, more than 7,000 volunteers fan out to 1,000+ job sites—painting porches, mulching trails, organizing food pantries, and delivering smiles to every corner of the region. Registration opens at 8 a.m. on the Drillfield; breakfast, music, and t-shirts fire up the crowd before crews depart at 9 a.m. No experience or tools needed—just bring weather-appropriate clothes and a positive spirit. Project captains pair students with local residents and organizations, fostering friendships that last long after the final paint stroke. The day wraps up with a campus BBQ and celebration, where volunteers swap stories and photos. Whether you’re a first-year Hokie, alumni returning for reunion weekend, or a community member requesting help, The Big Event is a powerful reminder of what unity can accomplish. Sign up early to secure your preferred project and be counted in the Southeast’s largest single-day student service effort. Together we’ll refresh playgrounds, weather-proof homes for seniors, plant community gardens, and leave Blacksburg brighter than we found it. Mark April 5, 2025, and show the world that Ut Prosim is more than a motto—it’s a movement.
