Logging out of Netflix on a TV isn’t always as obvious as it is on a phone or laptop—many TV apps tuck the option under Get Help or Settings, and some platforms (like Fire TV) handle it outside the Netflix app. This guide covers the fastest, most reliable ways to sign out on almost any TV or TV-connected device.

Before you start: know what “logging out” actually means

On TVs, Netflix uses a few terms that mean roughly the same thing:

  • Sign out / Log out: Removes your Netflix account from that TV.
  • Deactivate: Also removes your account (often used on certain device menus).
  • Reset / Start Over: Typically clears Netflix app data and returns you to a fresh sign-in state (useful if menus are broken).

If your goal is to remove your account from a hotel TV, switch to a different Netflix account, or secure your account, you’re in the right place.

Method 1 (works on most Smart TVs): Sign out from the Netflix “Get Help” menu

This is the most common flow on Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Roku TV, many others):

  1. Open the Netflix app on your TV.
  2. Go to the Netflix home screen.
  3. Press the Back button on your remote to open the Netflix side/top menu.
  4. Find Get Help (sometimes it’s Settings instead).
  5. Select Sign out.
  6. Confirm with Yes.

If you don’t see “Get Help”: Look for a gear icon labeled Settings, then look for Sign out there.

Method 2 (universal fallback): Use the Netflix remote “button sequence” to reveal Sign Out

If the Netflix menus are missing, frozen, or you just can’t find the logout option, Netflix documents a remote sequence that opens a hidden diagnostics menu on many TV devices:

  1. Open Netflix (or be on the Netflix home screen).
  2. On your remote, press in this exact order:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up

  1. A menu appears—choose Sign out, Reset, Deactivate, or Start Over (wording varies).

This is one of the most reliable “I’m stuck” solutions.

Method 3 (Roku & Roku TV): Sign out inside Netflix (or remove the channel)

Option A: Sign out within Netflix (most Roku models)

  1. Open Netflix.
  2. Press Back to open the menu.
  3. Go to Get HelpSign outYes.

Option B: Remove the Netflix channel (older Roku 2 flow)

If you’re on an older Roku flow, Netflix may sign out by removing the channel:

  1. Press Home to go to the Roku home screen.
  2. Highlight the Netflix app.
  3. Press the Star (*) button on the Roku remote.
  4. Choose Remove channel, then confirm.

Method 4 (Amazon Fire TV / Fire Stick): Log out by clearing Netflix app data (outside Netflix)

Fire TV commonly “disconnects” Netflix by clearing the app data through Fire OS:

  1. From the Fire TV Home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select Applications.
  3. Select Manage All Installed Applications.
  4. Choose Netflix.
  5. Select Clear Data.

This removes the stored Netflix sign-in info and returns the app to a logged-out state.

Method 5 (Apple TV): Sign out from Netflix “Get Help”

  1. Go to the Netflix home screen.
  2. Press Back to open the Netflix menu.
  3. Go left to your profile icon.
  4. Select Get HelpSign outYes.

If you can’t reach the Netflix “Get Help” menu, Netflix also notes that deleting and reinstalling the app can force a fresh sign-in state (varies by tvOS version/app behavior).

Method 6: Sign out of Netflix on ALL TVs/devices remotely (best for account security)

If you forgot to log out of a TV you no longer have access to (hotel, Airbnb, friend’s house), sign out remotely:

  1. On a phone/computer browser, open Netflix and go to Manage Access and Devices.
  2. To sign out one device: expand the device entry and sign out.
  3. Or scroll down and choose Sign Out of All Devices.

Important note: Netflix mentions not every device will always appear (for example, devices inactive for a long time may not show).

Troubleshooting: what to do if you still can’t log out

“Sign out” is missing everywhere

  • Try the button sequence method (Method 2).
  • Look for Settings (gear icon) instead of Get Help.

Netflix is stuck on an error screen

Netflix may show More Details and offer Sign out or Reset right from the error page.

You’re on a shared TV (hotel/Airbnb) and want to be safe

Do Sign Out of All Devices, then change your Netflix password afterward for extra safety (and re-login on your own devices). The “Sign out of all” option is the key step.

Quick cheat sheet (pick your device)

  • Most Smart TVs (Samsung/LG/etc.): Netflix → Back/Menu → Get Help/Settings → Sign out
  • Roku / Roku TV: Netflix → Back/Menu → Get Help → Sign out (or remove channel on older Roku)
  • Fire TV / Fire Stick: Fire TV Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Apps → Netflix → Clear Data
  • Apple TV: Netflix → Back/Menu → profile icon → Get Help → Sign out
  • Can’t find anything: Remote sequence Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right Up Up Up Up → Sign out/Reset
  • No access to the TV anymore: Netflix web → Manage Access and Devices → sign out device(s) or all
