How to Unblock a Number on Your iPhone

Blocking a number on your iPhone is easy. Unblocking it is just as simple. If you’ve blocked someone by mistake or changed your mind later, you can allow calls and messages from that number again in just a few taps.
Below are the easiest ways to unblock a number on your iPhone or iPad.
Why You Might Want to Unblock a Number
People block numbers for many reasons, and just as often, they decide to undo it. Here are some common situations:
- You blocked a contact accidentally
- You’re ready to talk to someone you avoided earlier
- You missed important calls related to work, health, or family
- A number you thought was spam turned out to be genuine
Whatever the reason, unblocking doesn’t take much time.
Unblock a Number from iPhone Settings
This method works for most situations and is the most commonly used.
- Open Settings
- Tap Phone
- Select Blocked Contacts
(On older versions, this may appear as Call Blocking & Identification) - Find the number you want to unblock
- Swipe left on the number and tap Unblock
Once done, that number can call, text, and FaceTime you again right away.
Unblock a Number from the Phone App (Recents)
If the number appears in your recent call history, this is a quick option.
- Open the Phone app
- Tap Recents
- Find the number and tap the i icon next to it
- Scroll down and tap Unblock this Caller
That’s it. No need to go into settings.
Unblock a Contact from Your Contacts List
If the blocked number is saved as a contact, you can unblock it directly from there.
- Open the Contacts app
- Select the contact you want to unblock
- Scroll down
- Tap Unblock this Caller
The contact will immediately be able to reach you again.
Unblock Text Message Senders
If someone was blocked only for messages, follow these steps:
- Open Settings
- Tap Messages
- Tap Blocked Contacts
- Swipe left on the number
- Tap Unblock
You’ll start receiving texts from that number again.
If Your Mobile Network Blocked the Number
Sometimes, numbers are blocked through your mobile service provider instead of the phone itself. In that case, unblocking from iPhone settings won’t work.
You’ll need to:
- Use your provider’s app, or
- Visit their website, or
- Contact customer support
They can remove the block from their side.
Quick Things to Know
- Unblocking works instantly
- No restart is required
- The person won’t be notified that they were blocked or unblocked
- Calls going to voicemail aren’t always a sign of blocking
Unblocking a number on an iPhone is straightforward once you know where to look. Whether it was a mistake or a change of heart, you can reconnect in seconds.
